Flight Vs Fight (2026) is a speculative narrative about a Future Ancestor envisioning the Brolga dance (Jungil in Yagara language and Burrangkul in Yanyuwa - pronounced Yanyula - language) through an Indigenous Futurist Lens. The figure seen is performing their speculative version of the dance in front of a monumental stone mural of an ancestry tree. The dance is witnessed by a Willywag tail - Galmalgalam (Yagara) - a-kijirrikijirri (Yanyuwa) in the foreground.
This drawing prompts the audience to consider how the mechanical form influences on our native bird species.
The mechanical forms seem here appropriate Mobile Suit Gundam a television series directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The series tells a story about a futurist society that has established space colonies where one particular colony declares independence from what is known as “Earth Federation”. The mobile suits act as a next stage and advancement in their fight for sovereignty and independence.
